Welcome to the Binary Huffman Coding demonstration!
Be sure you have enabled your browser for Java before proceeding. Otherwise
nothing will happen! This demonstration makes use of colour so:
- Be sure you have a colour monitor!
- If you are running X11 be sure you have no problem with colourmap
allocation (watch out for any warnings when staring your browser)
- Be sure your default browser and desktop configuration allows you to
see black, blue and red foreground colours
Instructions
- Use the Step button to step through each process of the Huffman
source reductions and binary code generation.
- Use the Random button to randomly generate another set of
source probabilities and use Step for another example of Huffman
coding.
- Yes this is a real live interactive demonstration! Type in your own
probability values in the dialog box below the buttons (separated by
white-space) and then hit Enter. Lo and behold, you can now perform
Huffman coding on your own set of values. Use it to do the tutorials and
assignments! Too bad you can't take this with you in the Exam :-(.
Are you ready? Click here and away you go!
