The turbo principle, originally developed for the powerful turbo codes, has been applied to joint signal detection and decoding to suppress various interferences such as inter-symbol interference, multi-user interference and cross antenna interference. The optimal signal detection is based on maximum a posterior criteria, which usually involves prohibitive complexity. Recently, the sub-optimal detection based on linear minimum mean-square error (LMMSE) criteria has drawn much attention because it can achieve a good trade-off between performance and complexity.
